Sawit Property Champions Marine Conservation in Mabul Island, Reinforces Commitment to Sustainability Ahead of Eden Suites Launch

SKGP-5

KOTA KINABALU, SABAH — Demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable tourism, Sawit Kinabalu Group (SKG), through its property arm SKG Property Sdn. Bhd. (Sawit Property), has unveiled impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives focused on coral and sea turtle conservation in Mabul Island, Semporna.

In collaboration with the Borneo Marine Research Institute of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (BMRI-UMS) and marine conservation organisation One Ocean Empire, these initiatives aim to restore fragile marine ecosystems and empower local communities. The one-year partnership will focus on growing coral nurseries, which will propagate approximately 200 new corals to protect two sea turtle nests, and to equip locals with marine conservation and eco-tourism skills. The announcement comes as Sawit Property prepares to launch Eden Suites that is positioned to set a new standard in sustainable hospitality that offers comfort and conscious travel experiences.
Therefore, to mark the occasion, Datin Stella Ambrose, representing Sawit Kinabalu Group, presented mock cheques worth RM10,000 to BMRI-UMS, received by Associate Professor Dr. Zarinah Waheed, and RM20,000 to One Ocean Empire, received by Founder Ms. Monica Chin, during a ceremony held at the Sawit Kinabalu’s headquarters.
Sawit Kinabalu Group is hopeful that these collaborative efforts will spark long-term awareness and action towards preserving Sabah’s marine biodiversity. By involving local communities and advocating sustainability through business practices, Sawit Kinabalu aims to inspire more private sector players to adopt responsible development models that balance growth with environmental protection.
